The project „Phase 2 – Leave no one behind!“ would like to invite you to our upcoming virtual regional training on „Disability-inclusive Project Cycle Management“. The training will be conducted online for 4 half days on 24 & 25 November and 1 & 2 December, and a short welcome session on 23 November. The exact training times and a detailed agenda will be published soon. We provide reasonable accommodation upon request and strive to make the training as accessible and inclusive as possible.
The training primarily targets programme staff of country and local partner organisations of German NGOs working in East Africa. Please reach out to us if you are unsure about your eligibility to participate.

An estimated 15% of the world population experiences a disability, with even higher numbers in conflict and disaster contexts. While it is widely acknowledged that persons with disabilities are at heightened risk in emergency and humanitarian settings, they are often not considered as part of the general target group in humanitarian programmes.
Often disability is not mainstreamed throughout the project cycle. Within the assessment, planning, monitoring and evaluation phase of a project, persons with disabilities are often not consulted nor actively engaged in decision-making. The invisibility during all phases in the humanitarian project cycle results in a lack of protection and risk of being excluded from general humanitarian services.
Therefore, technical experts and experienced practitioners will demonstrate how disability can be mainstreamed, answering among others the following questions:
- How is disability understood?
- What are the factors that may put persons with disabilities at heightened risk in a humanitarian response?
- What key approaches should humanitarian programmers consider?
- What are key practical recommendations and promising practices?
- What are key resources for an inclusive humanitarian response?
The training will include a mix of input presentations, group and scenario working sessions, plenary discussions, open knowledge and experience exchanges. Following the workshop, participants receive certificates, recordings and training materials.
Each organisation selects 1-2 staff members who apply through the application form. Successful applicants are selected based on pre-defined criteria and will be informed after the application deadline.
