On 19 August, Christian Blind Mission (CBM) Cameroon joined the international community in commemorating World Humanitarian Day at the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Tsinga, Yaoundé. This year marked the 17th edition of the global event, which was held under the theme: “Strengthening Global Solidarity and Empowering Local Communities.” The theme underscored the growing importance of local leadership in humanitarian responses, particularly as crises become more complex and prolonged. In Cameroon, the celebration brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including government officials, international and national NGOs, and development partners.

Each speaker brought unique insights to the conversation. OCHA emphasized the need for inclusive coordination mechanisms, data-driven planning, and adherence to humanitarian principles, to ensure that aid reaches the most vulnerable populations. Ministry of Territorial Administration/ Civil Protection Directorate of Cameroon (MINAT/DPC) reiterated the government’s leadership role in humanitarian coordination, calling for stronger institutional frameworks, improved resource mobilization, and enhanced local government capacity to respond effectively to emergencies.

The National NGO representative advocated for the deeper inclusion of local organizations in decision-making processes. They highlighted the value of community-level insights and grassroots networks, stressing the need for capacity building and equitable funding.

The international NGO representative focused on strengthening synergies between global and local actors. They emphasized the importance of skills transfer, technical support, and long-term partnerships to build sustainable systems and promote local ownership. The panel concluded with a question-and-answer session, enabling participants to engage directly with the speakers and explore practical approaches to enhance humanitarian collaboration in Cameroon.

After the panel discussion, attendees visited exhibition stands showcasing humanitarian initiatives from across the country. CBM Cameroon was proudly represented by its Business Development, Disability Inclusive Development Officer, LNOB Coordinator, and a dedicated OPD (Organization of Persons with Disabilities) intern. The CBM team actively engaged with visitors, sharing the organization’s vision and mission, outlining its work in Cameroon and highlighting its network of partners. The stand attracted significant interest, with many attendees expressing a desire to visit the CBM office and explore potential collaborations.

The event concluded with closing remarks from the MINAT/DPC representative, who commended all participants for their dedication to humanitarian service. The representative emphasized the importance of continued collaboration, respect for humanitarian principles, and inclusive leadership when it comes to addressing Cameroon’s evolving challenges.

CBM is committed to promoting inclusive humanitarian action and strengthening partnerships that empower communities across Cameroon. The organization extends its gratitude to all partners and stakeholders who contributed to the success of this year’s celebration.
