A Tool development training was held in Niamey, Niger, from August 20 to 22, 2024, to help humanitarian workers in the WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) Cluster better understand how to include people with disabilities in their programmatic work. The event was organized by CBM and the WASH Cluster Coordination team.

The training had 24 participants (6 women and 18 men) from 19 humanitarian organizations, including UN agencies like UNICEF, international NGOs such as Vision Plus and World Vision, national NGOs like Kawtal, and the Ministry of Hydraulics, Sanitation, and Environment, which co-leads the cluster.

Through hands-on activities, participants learned how to make the WASH Cluster’s tools and strategies more inclusive for people with disabilities. These sessions also helped them improve their own organizations’ tools to ensure better inclusion.

The newly improved tools will be approved and shared with all WASH Cluster members, ensuring they are used in future projects.

The workshop discussion recommended that FNPH (Nigerien disability network), join the WASH Cluster so that people with disabilities and their organizations can be involved in all stages of humanitarian work.
