The Spanish Version of the IASC Guidelines on Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities Is Online!

In November 2019, the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) “Guidelines on Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in Humanitarian Action” were launched in New York. Now, through the support of the “Phase 2 – Leave no one behind!” project, a Spanish translation has been produced.

The global Guidelines are a milestone in inclusive humanitarian action. They set out essential actions that humanitarian actors must take to address the needs and rights of persons with disabilities. Especially in crisis and conflict areas, persons with disabilities might be at higher risk, often being left out of the humanitarian response. For this reason, recommendations and must do actions for a more inclusive humanitarian action have been developed. Each chapter places persons with disabilities at the centre of humanitarian action, as actors and as part of the affected population.

The IASC Guidelines have now been translated into another official language of the United Nations through our “Phase 2 – Leave no one behind! project. From now on, the global Guidelines will also be available to Spanish-speaking humanitarian actors, working in the Latin American region.

These are the first humanitarian guidelines developed with and by persons with disabilities and their representative organisations in collaboration with humanitarian actors. To ensure that the human rights-based approach to disability was also transferred to the Spanish translation, we worked together and were supported by self-advocates and technical specialist also in this process.
