Training on Income-Generating Activities: FNPH Builds the Capacity of its Regional Branches to Mobilise Resources

The Niger Federation of People with Disabilities (FNPH), as part of Phase 4 – Leave No One Behind! project, organised a training workshop on Income-Generating Activities in Maradi on 10-11 April 2026 for 10 members of its regional branches. This initiative aims to strengthen the economic empowerment and resilience of people with disabilities by enabling them to identify and seize existing entrepreneurial opportunities at the local level. The IGAs promoted are viable and adapted to the economic and administrative realities of Niger at national, communal, departmental and regional levels, fostering income generation, economic inclusion and local development. The FNPH also aims to promote projects that are inclusive, sustainable and adapted to the nexus context.

Equipping participants to become entrepreneurs

The workshop was led by a specialist in the development and management of income-generating activities, with support from FNPH experts and CBM managers. The training combined PowerPoint presentations, group work, plenary discussions and the sharing of experiences relating to the development and management of income-generating activities.

Acquiring practical tools for managing income-generating activities

Throughout the training, participants acquired essential knowledge on the principles of income-generating activities and the steps required for their implementation. They were trained in techniques for identifying economic opportunities, project development, and monitoring and evaluation mechanisms. Concepts relating to resource mobilisation and the effective management of income-generating activities were also covered to promote the financial autonomy of the FNPH’s regional branches.

Identifying funding opportunities, managing and ensuring the sustainability of income-generating activities

The modules delivered focused on several key concepts aimed at strengthening participants’ capacities in the development and management of income-generating activities (IGAs), notably:

• Basic concepts of economics, market economy and management.
• Fundamental concepts of income-generating activities.
• Analysing the feasibility and profitability of projects before implementation.
• Identifying different sources of funding for income-generating activities.
• Strategies for sourcing and mobilising financial resources.
• Effective and transparent management of funds received.
• Principles of financial and risk management.
• Maintaining administrative, financial and accounting records.
• Using balance sheets and profit-and-loss statements to monitor activities.
• Best practices for ensuring the sustainability and development of income-generating activities.

Through this workshop, the FNPH reaffirms its commitment to the economic inclusion of people with disabilities. By strengthening the capacities of its regional branches in the development, management and financing of income-generating activities, it contributes to promoting the financial autonomy and resilience of its members. This initiative paves the way for the implementation of inclusive, sustainable and locally adapted income-generating activities in support of local development and the well-being of people with disabilities, their decentralised organisations and their communities.
