Background
Disability inclusion has become a key cross-cutting issue in humanitarian actions during the past five years. Ever since the ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD), all subsequent guidelines, resolutions, and standards in the humanitarian sector are strongly linked to the UN CRPD, especially with the publication of the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) Guidelines on the Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in Humanitarian Action in 2019.
However, the implementation is partially hindered by lack of knowledge on how to ensure meaningful participation of persons with disabilities and their representing organisations (OPDs) in humanitarian assessments, project planning, project implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
The objective of the training is to increase the understanding of meaningful participation of persons with disabilities with a specific attention towards the engagement with OPDs and how to improve the exchange between OPDs and mainstreaming humanitarian actors.
Methodology
The training will include an online self-learning exercise of around 90 minutes to be conducted between 17th and 22nd of June. The online sessions (2 x 2,5 hours) will include a mix of input presentations, group and scenario working sessions, plenary discussions and the option for individual advisory sessions. Persons with disabilities will be actively engaged as facilitators and guest speakers in the online sessions.
Following the workshop, participants receive certificates, recordings and training materials.
Application
The training primarily targets HQ programme and project staff of German NGOs working in the humanitarian sector which have already gained basic knowledge on disability inclusive humanitarian action.
Each organisation selects 1-2 staff members who apply through the application form. Successful applicants are selected based on pre-defined criteria and the responses submitted. All applicants will be informed shortly after the application deadline.
Application is open: 10 May – 24 May (6pm CEST) here.
