HI’s South Sudan project team conducted its fourth joint Review, Adapt and Action Learning laboratory (RAAL-Lab) workshop to 18 participants from National and International Non-Governmental Organizations and Organization of Persons with Disabilities (OPD’s). The training was held in Juba, South Sudan, from 4th to 6th September 2024.

This was the first time that the mainstream organisations in the Protection Cluster and the Organisations of Persons with Disabilities were trained together, which created an opportunity to enhance networking and collaboration between the parties and promote meaningful participation of persons with disabilities.

The training was tailored based on the Disability Reference Group (DRG) training modules on Introduction to Disability-Inclusive Humanitarian Action, and used the Review, Adapt and Action Learning laboratory (RAAL-Lab) methodology to review tools to identify disability-related gaps. Three assessment tools were reviewed during the training in interactive sessions where participants identified the existing disability-related gaps in the tools.

Additionally, the participants acquired knowledge on disability-inclusive humanitarian action through Must Do Actions, twin-track approach, and use of the IASC Guidelines, inclusive project cycle management and inclusive Accountability to Affected Population. One of the participants summed up the benefits of the training:

“This workshop has not only been an eye and mind opener for us, but also it has enhanced our networking and experience sharing with Organization of Persons with Disabilities members for future collaboration. When we go back to our organizations, we will put in action the learnings we acquired”.
