On 29th and 30th August 2024 our project staff gave a guest lecture at the Akkon Hochschule für Humanwissenschaften on Inclusive Humanitarian Action.
In late August, our Phase 3 – Leave No One Behind! team presented a guest lecture to students at the AKKON University under the Bachelor on Emergency and Catastrophe Relief programme to talk about disability, intersectionality and the IASC Guidelines on Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in Humanitarian Action. The session included scenario work to practice operationalising the four Must-Do Actions.
Since Phase 2, the Leave No One Behind team has been working with the university to foster awareness on inclusive humanitarian action by guiding the humanitarians of the next generation.
After this year’s lecture, students said the teaching opened a new perspective for them and that they learned how to keep people with disabilities in mind when planning a project, and making sure that they apply the concept of “nothing about us, without us.” As one student concluded:
To keep people with disabilities in mind whenever planning a project and talking TO them, not about them.
