Capacity Building IASC-Guidelines Pilot Countries

As part of the Leave No One Behind! project activities, our Somaliland country team organized 3 days of Review, Adapt, Action and Learning (RAAL) laboratory workshop in Hargeisa in December 2022. This was attended by protection cluster partners, including local non-governmental organizations (LNGOs), international non-governmental organizations (INGOs), organizations of persons with disabilities (OPDs).

The RAAL approach is a process that allows participants to review, develop, learn jointly, and adapt the existing assessment tools to align them with the recommendations of the IASC Guidelines. In addition, peer learning and review methods are the core of the process, enhancing the confidence of humanitarian actors to address disability-inclusion as well as helping to create locally adapted tools for project implementation and ensure ownership.

The workshop was very interactive. It focused on practical aspects where the participants shared experiences and reviewed the inclusiveness of their specific assessment tools as guided by the Must Do Actions (MDAs) towards disability inclusion.

Notable was the participation of Somaliland National Disability Forum (SNDF). The members acknowledged that the approach helped them gain new knowledge on disability mainstreaming and how it can be applied in the humanitarian interventions.
